AOL Abuse complaints

Postby mutton on Tue Jul 15, 2008 10:57 am

I frequently get notifications from my hosting company that I have received an abuse complaint from AOL. The notifications show a valid customer who has signed up for my site, uses AOL and who must have his security setting too high or maybe AOL has my site flagged as adult or spam. There are notifications on my site telling AOL users to put my site in their address list, but that doesn't mean it happens.

Is there a way I can suppress email to AOL users, or send it an indirect route, instead of thru my server?

Or an automated way to add my site's email address to their address list?

First I would try contacting AOL and inform them of the problem..

This should only happen if your site is spamming people.

you could edit the mail function to not send to AOL emails but what would be the point .. you would have to ask new members not to use an aol email?

I'm not sure if there is a way to have your site added automatically to their address book.. thats a good question if anyone knows do tell..

I had a similar problem with Yahoo mails and I fixed it by contacting yahoo.

I've traded a lot of email with the person at my hosting company who handles abuse complaints. She tells me that AOL's rules are that following one of these (bogus) abuse complaints I am supposed to treat the complaint as a request to remove the user from my site and I am not even supposed to contact the user and tell them what happened. She also says that she has tried for two years to contact someone at AOL and has not been able to.
