Email From NOBODY from host

Postby larryj on Tue Jul 08, 2008 6:39 pm

Hi all,

This is my first post here and I hope I explain it properly to get some insight.

I have been regularly receiving the following emails to my sites admin mailbox:

From: Nobody <nobody@myserver.com>
To: admin@mydomain.net
Subject: Administrative Area - Login Information

Username: my admin user name
Password: my password

My host company told me it was some type of script because there is a user registration area. I emailed WebScribble and here is the answer I received back:

Hello,

The mail will come once you click the "Forgot password?" on the smartway index page.
Sincerely,
Sam
Technical Support Representative

I have no idea what that means. can anyone help?

Thanks,

Larry

This means someone clicked on forgot password on your smartway page

the page used to log into your admin area.

this could be a couple of things

a search engine robot clicked the link... or webscribble themselfs are trying to access your smartway... because when this button is clicked it sends the info to you and webscribbles server..

I am a little concerned with this considering the recent russian spam/scam emails...

if you are on a linux server you can protect your site by only allowing access to your smartway folder to your own ip address.

I recommend everyone do this for security reasons.
