Is there a way to change my password in the admin area?

Postby sddarkman619 on Sun Jun 14, 2009 12:50 pm

I would like ot change my password for the admin area, but when I change it in the admin area, and try to log back in, I can't. I look in the conf.xml file and there it is plain as day, and not encrypted. I would like ot know where or how to change the admin password. Paul, Anyone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

System settings... Admin settings

if it does not update you probably have the permissions wrong on the file smartway/plug-ins/admin_settings/conf.xml

the password should also appear encrypted in that conf.xml file

set permissions on this file to 777 if possible on your server

I tried that. It shows up as plain text in my conf file.
I am on the older version too, 1.3.5
the conf file is chmod 777
and it still does the plain text and I have to copy my password to the conf file from an old conf file I had backed up, thank god for that.
the old conf file does have the encrypted password which works.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Its as if the encrypter doesn't work. is that what the security key is in the admin area too?

so the original backup file is showing encrypted?

I guess it is a problem in your system.lib or function.lib file that handles the function for encryption.

you could try going into smartway/lib backup these files and re-upload the originals in binary mode

see if that helps

Binary, not text mode right?
IE the way I would upload an image as opposed to a txt or php file?
Thank you for your help.

ok I have re-uploaded the files, as binary, and changed the permissions on them to 777, and still no luck.

Paul, I actually figured out that the encoding is Base64 and I decoded my password so I then encoded a new password and put that in my conf file and it works flawlessly. so we can now set our passwords if this happens to anyone else.
thanks for the help.
