1. make profile creation flow straight through. curently you need to sign in after registering and then create profile.
With my upgrade it goes from registration to profile creation without signing in and also asks for photo upload imediately after the profile creation (this makes signing up more plesant and gets more users to upload photos).. Photo uploader now brands your site title across the top of the image for free advertisment when photos are shared online they now have your site title on them.. (alot of major sites use this)
2. upload my reprogrammed photo uploader. This uploader can handle large photos and resizes them down to a server friendly size.. for example a 2.2 meg photo becomes 66 kb.. thumbnails work as usual.. allows user to click a swap primary link under each photo to make any photo the primary headshot without deleting or uploading. this was imposible to change your primary without deleting and re-uploading... also the upload button changes to say uploading after clicked so user know its working. Also the photo can be clicked in the upload page to see the full size pop up.. this was not available from the upload page before.
3. fix a bug with the preview profile link in the my profile area.. the preview profile link was showing members the wrong profile when their member id and profile id did not match (this is quite often) fixed some code so it always pulls the profile id to preview.
4. fixed when member cancels membership photos were not deleting taking up hard drive space on the server. it checks and deletes all members photos when they cancel membership.. added code for the photo deletion.
5. Matchfinder sending multiple duplicate emails to same member .. member were recieving up to 20 duplicate emails from the matchfinder. installed code to make sure each member only recieves one mail per matchfinder run.
6. Matchfinder also added on profile creation the members state is automaticly put in to the matchfinder this will limit their matches to their own state.. if they wish to change it later they can.. but it's a good initial setting.
7. Matchfinder added link in matchfinder email so member can click here to change matchfinder settings.
8. Remember me not remembering on log out.. if someone checks box remember me the system will only remember them until they click log out... it should remember them even after log out... you can choose if you want this changed or not.. to have the remember me last for more than one session.
9. Limit access to search/browse/whos_online/new_profiles pages to people who are signed in... this helps get alot of new registrations if your database is not huge yet.. people will sign up first to see what you have... it works really well..
you can choose any or all of these page be locked until login.
10. Require member has approved profile before sending email. this is a good feature to stop spammers
11. Added Report spam button to inbox if member feels a message may be spam they can click report spam and a copy of the username who sent the spam is emailed to the site admin.
12. Added link to profile on view profile page at bottom it highlights the link automaticly on mouseover so people can easily copy paste a link to any profile for their blog/myspace or emailing to others.
13. Created a page that displays links to all members profiles.. this way google can index all your sites profiles
14. moved main page body to left and quicksearch to the right... google and yahoo bots were scanning all the numbers in the quicksearch as being the first part of the page content showing up really awfull in the search description.
15. Auto cursor in login box... added the cursor to the login box automaticly so after clicking sign in you are already in the box... this is how most major players have it.
16. The ip block does not work for all servers I can give you my full list of known scammers ip's it works really well..
17. Index the database ... the database with over 1000 users starts to move really slow and needs to be indexed this speeds things up considerably.
18. Put custom titles on all profiles for better SEO results for example if your viewing pauls profile the title at the top of the browser says pauls profile. also all pages are stated in the title at the top (this is a new feature I designed for a customer wanting SEO) Also can add the page title into the keywords list so keywords will vary a bit for all pages.
19. added 2 types of quicksearch areas one is only on the home page and the other shows in the rest of the site. can also show links you choose only on the home page and not within the site.. this is great for SEO or link exchange that you only want displayed once on the home page.
20. One last thing I forgot about on the sign up process under email it says "this is the email other members will contact you with" this is a scary statement making people feel that their email may be shared.. I changed the text to say "email always kept private"
