Smarty Tags

Postby webjedi on Wed Jun 04, 2008 6:41 pm

Ok guys, I feared that as time went on from version 1.3.5 to the latest version
that more and more of this code would become encrypted and thus uneditable
(a real pain for bugs).

I have edited this post because it talked about Smarty tags and after reading through the version 3.0
code, I realized there are no Smarty tags here I thought things like this:

Code: Select all
<title>{title}</title>
was a Smarty tag but it is not.

However it raises a new question, the way that Version 3.0 parses tags like these is problematic.

Does anyone have 10,000+ users that use Version 3.0?
If so have you noticed a VERY appreciable slowing of your site?
I predict that it will become intolerably slow as the user count builds.
Tricky to customize this site, but 25% done so far.

I'm on 3.0 going on 15000 members. No issues with speed, just with the quality of the scripts and non-existence of support from webbungle.

Ok, thats refreshing to know :)
Thanks for the postings. I was really worried about the speed issue, I feel much more confident now :)
However, I dont see why people complain about webscribble's support, personally I have never had a problem
with them, they are quick and fast and accomodating :?: :?:

I have 31000 members and in the process of upgrading from 2.0 to 3.0 with Paul's help. I will let you know how the site runs after this is done. Right now I have a problem with images loading slow in 2.0

We cannot compete against the 'big leaguers' unless we have some sort of alliance.
No Paul, I am NOT spamming :)
I am suggesting that we share the wealth maybe. We can certainly come up with a shared member system
that triples our user base, safely, in accordance with our terms and privacy agreements.

I redirect all that are not US, Canada, UK, Aust, NZ, Ireland, Scotland, Spain and Italy.
I put on the table that I can redirect to one or all of you guys, I mean if you want them.

I don't even deal with those countries. Spam issues, language issues, payment issues are all a factor there.

I like your numbers you guys, sadly better than mine, I hand-approve all profiles to keep the DB clean of spammers and fakes.

Anyone want to talk about cross-advertising, creating a consortium? Are you guys on "auto-approve" is that why your numbers are
high to me (congrats on your numbers no knock there AT ALL) just want to dig deeper into the millions of online daters.

I had a similar idea for networking more than one database

the idea was that a search result would return members from several sites but when click on the profile it would bring the person to the partner site to view the profile...

I am willing to program this feature but I need partners with at least 10,000 members in order to get this project rolling

so if you have a webdate site with over 10,000 members in the USA

I would be willing to try this out and offer my 20,000 members as a partner search result.

the original thread was here..

starting-a-new-modification-project-network-search-t8.html

but lets continue on this to see if anyone want to give this a go...
