Spammers

Postby Starbuck on Fri Feb 01, 2008 3:14 am

I run a free site and find lots of people trying to get on from Africa. Once they get on thy start spamming. I check each IP address with whois.sc. A good feature would be to take the content of the IP address field and to check with a whois site and display the results in a separate window or an iframe.

this would be a nice feature and could come into play if I design a easy access backend..

as I said in another post I have chosen not to modify the encrypted backend... so checking ip's manually works

but if you find an ip from say nigeria this is what I do

if the ip is

123.456.789.101

I usually clip off the last set

123.456.789.

this will block a wider range of people from this area...

My problem is spammers that use anonymous proxy addresses. The ips look like they come from the united states. They sign up and spam my website. Is there any way to limit how many messages can be sent daily? Let's say 7 messages max..so that way they can't send out hundreds of spam messages.
